Serenity in Fate
Artist:林冠名 Lin, Kuan-Ming
Media: Ball pens, strawboard, markers, acrylic, EVA foam (mixed media)
The people are placed in a tree for protection, hidden between the sky and the earth. They reside in tree holes, symbolizing two aspects of self-protection and the risk of overlooking potential changes. The upper part shows overreliance and getting lost in unrealistic comfort, which the person is entangled with. The lower part demonstrates compliance with the course of life and a march toward peace and a practical sense of belonging. The interactions between the two parts present the contrasts between impasse and rapprochement, pressure and stability, and collapse and rejuvenation.
Before reality is fully awake and breaks all the current constraints, I spare a part of myself and leave it there forever. When I am alive, I stay here and accommodate myself in ideality. When I am dead, I fall and turn into fertilizer that nourishes trees, driving the life cycle of a tree. This piece is a representation of a safe haven and also a symbol of the fate of the native family.
