The Sun Rising From the East, the Waves Crashes Against the Rocks
Media: Ink, Xuan paper
“I wasn’t clear about what to paint when I started to create the pieces for the collage. Instead, I let the scenery naturally emerge during the creation of the collage.”
Ten years ago, I was unsure whether I wanted to live in Taiwan. I once went camping with a friend on the East Coast near Hualien. He insisted that we get up at 5 a.m. and go see the sunrise above the sea. I can never forget the view of the sun rising from the sea and the waves crashing against the rocks in front of me. It was when I decided to stay in Taiwan.
By selecting and recombining fragments of my different pieces of work, after multiple additions or deductions and combinations or separations, surprising scenery was created. The use of collage and flexible techniques allow me to break the limits of the media, changing not only the composition and layout but also the texture of the ink.
